Rethinking your own job

Job crafting means actively and self-determinedly adapting your own work to better suit your personal strengths and interests. In the Job Crafting e-learning course, participants reflect on the skills, values and interests they bring to the table – and develop concrete strategies to give them more space in their everyday work.

They look at how they can prioritize tasks differently, consciously shape relationships within the team or reinterpret their professional role.

In this way, the workplace becomes not just a functional place, but an environment in which motivation, meaningfulness and personal development can be experienced.

Shaping your own work - interactive and practical

The e-learning is about consciously reflecting on one’s own work content and strengths and discovering potential ways to better harmonize them. The introduction to the topic of job crafting is provided by a short explanatory video that clearly illustrates basic job crafting strategies and the next steps in the learning process. This simplifies the introduction to the personal job crafting journey. Interactive elements systematically guide participants through the e-learning and help them to develop their individual job crafting goals and thus shape their work in a strength-oriented way.

Storytelling, coaching elements and individual results

Experience and design job crafting

As part of the Job Crafting e-Learning, learners are immersed in a coaching scene in which Coach Melanie guides them through their personal job crafting journey. She provides support with tasks, gives impulses and ensures a clear structure in the learning process. The participants are accompanied by Mario, another character who also wants to improve his working environment. Mario serves as a virtual learning companion and shows how he puts Melanie’s tips into practice – keeping the learning process approachable, vivid and authentic.

Personalized, sustainable and highly interactive

Technical innovation for individual learning

In order to optimally reflect the individual nature of job crafting, Articulate Storyline was combined with JavaScript extensions specifically for the e-learning course on job crafting at the University of St. Gallen. This made it possible to create interactions that consistently focus on the learners.
A central element: during the course of the training, participants enter their own content – such as areas of responsibility, interests or change requests – which is systematically processed and transferred into a personal job crafting strategy. Despite the strong storytelling elements, each scene remains interactive and encourages active participation. At the end, the individually developed strategy can be saved as a PDF or printed out – for concrete added value beyond the training.

In the coaching dialog

In the e-learning course on job crafting, participants experience real coaching moments!

Melanie asks the learners specific questions to involve them in self-reflection. The participants have a virtual conversation via selection options and thus actively shape their own learning experience in a practical way.

Interview with Sophie Theresa Schepp
  • How did you come up with the idea of turning job crafting into e-learning? Is that even possible?

Precisely because job crafting is so individual, it seemed exciting to us to develop an e-learning course from it. Our aim was not only to convey the principles and methods of job crafting in theory, but to really get the learners actively involved. With a virtual coaching approach, we were able to maintain the individuality and at the same time create a structured, motivating learning process.

  • How is e-learning currently being received?

The feedback has been consistently positive. The participants particularly praise the high level of interactivity and the personal approach by coach Melanie. Many report that they feel really picked up and supported – which is particularly important with a topic as personal as job crafting.

  • Why did you choose skillbest?

We were looking for a partner with both didactic experience and technical know-how for innovative e-learning solutions. skillbest immediately convinced us with its creative concept, the use of storytelling and the extended interaction options. We were particularly impressed by how individually our requirements were addressed.

  • How do you rate e-learning compared to existing digital learning opportunities in the field of job crafting?

It does not stop at theory, but enables learners to actively analyze their own working environment and develop strategies directly. The market is currently flooded with classic/fast e-learning courses on various topics. At the end of the day, the e-learning courses that remain are those that have been developed to a really high standard, and we were able to present a good example on the subject of job crafting!

"Our aim was to make job crafting a real experience - and that's exactly what we've achieved with this e-learning."
